Oreo Truffles
Oreo Truffles, what can I say other than they are to Potlucks as Rihanna is to the Met Gala. You might not know exactly how they’ll show up but you know they are gonna be one of if not the only star of the night. Oreo Truffles are the decadent treat that has the range and the potential to be the dietary safe option everyone can enjoy.
Not Parker's Oreo Truffles, just something to aspire to ;)
The beauty of this lies in the fact that they are at the base and therefore easily transformed into a gluten free or dairy free recipe at the blink of an eye.
The following recipe is based on the classic recipe but pay close attention there will be notes on how to elevate and transform the recipe for dietary restrictions and flavor changes.
Basic recipe:
Truffle:
1:1 ratio of cream cheese and oreos
8oz cream cheese (softened)
1 14oz package oreos
Coating:
30oz candy melts.
Dietary Substitutions
To make gluten free substitute gluten free oreos
To make dairy free substitute dairy free cream cheese
Flavor Changes
Change the flavor of oreos or even change to nutter butters for a peanut butter delight
Change the flavor of the cream cheese to pump up the flavor
Add 1-2 tbsp of your favorite syrup or creamer to the mixture to add more flavor and sweetness. We recommend 1 Tbsp for liquids.
Directions
If cream cheese is not already softened, take it out of the fridge and set aside. Take your oreos and crush using a food processor until finely crushed. (if you don’t have a food processor a gallon sized ziploc, rolling pin, and ample elbow grease will do the trick.)
Add half the crushed mixture to a medium mixing bowl and fold in the cream cheese, mix thoroughly.
Optional - add 1-2 tbsp of your preferred syrup or flavoring. (pumpkin spice syrup, baileys, vanilla, berry syrup)
Then add the rest of the oreo mixture, mixing until a dough-like consistency and there are no large cream cheese streaks.
Using a spoon (2 tbsp, or ice cream scoop are also acceptable) form the oreo mixture into inch sized balls onto a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper.
Optional - Place in the fridge for 1 hr or freezer for 15 min to firm up the balls this makes dipping them in the chocolate significantly easier
Melt candy coating and bring the balls back out and either
Drizzle them on top
Dip each ball in the mixture using toothpicks or a fork
Let chocolate coating firm to the touch approx 15 min

mmmmm truffles...
